Stepping Stones to Shalom After-school Program
First Baptist Peddie Memorial Church has partnered with the YMCA to offer a unique after-school program for the children of families who temporarily reside at the Y. The primary goal of the after-school program is to foster character development. Stepping Stones to Shalom After-school Program supports a holistic philosophy, teaching core values that are based on biblical principles.
Do unto others as you would have them do to you. (Luke 6:31)
Stepping Stones to Shalom is designed to guide children through a process that will enable them to grow and develop spiritually, morally, ethically, socially, academically and creatively. The curriculum is diverse and age appropriate. It is specifically designed for children ages five to twelve years old. The curriculum is as follows:
- Healthy Snacks
- Homework Help
- Quiet Time for Reading and Writing
- Arts and Crafts
- Table Games and Puzzles
- Recreation and Structured Play
Every child who is enrolled in Stepping Stones to Shalom After-school Program is respected, valued and loved. It is in this learning environment that each child is nurtured and encouraged to develop a sense of responsibility to self, family and a larger community. The after-school program is held on the lower level of First Baptist Peddie Memorial Church in a space that is comfortable, child-friendly, visually attractive and spiritually and intellectually stimulating.
Stepping Stones to Shalom After-school Program welcomes children of all religious affiliations. The long-range goal of the after-school program is for each girl and boy to experience his and her personal shalom, which means peace, well-being and wholeness. First Baptist Peddie Memorial Church’s ultimate vision is to serve the Newark community and witness the transformation of lives into the likeness of Jesus Christ.
